The Universal Kaasan

The Universal Kaasan!
Hi, everybody! Universal Kaasan here! As noted in Jack’s profile, I am a cofounder of Cosplay in a Nutshell as well as an original member.  I used to just go around cons and make friends while trekking solo, which I enjoyed immensely (that’s how I met a lot of current friends) but I’ve found that going around a convention with a group of people –better yet, close friends—is just as enjoyable, if not more so.

I am twenty years old, though most of the group will say that I’m the ‘mom’. I’m the one who  usually administers first aid (for both real and fake injuries) , I jealously guard the younger and cuter members of the group from wandering Pedobears, and I even referee the occasional con drama fight.

I attended school with Jack for two years before certain circumstances prevented me from returning. I am currently taking a break from school and heading into the working world—I have a job at a bookstore which I enjoy a great deal (I’m also the group’s resident bookworm), but it’s hard not spending my paycheck on more books! –laughs-
One of the few things I enjoy more than cosplaying is reading. I monitored myself recently, and upon review had read over 1800 pages in the span of a month. I blame my friends for enabling me.
I have two pets, a tri-colored Aussie mix named Lucy and a tuxedo cat named Maestro, both of whom are spoiled rotten.  I also have a younger sister who thinks that my dedication to the cosplay scene is highly embarrassing and disinheritance-worthy.

My anime and manga interests tend to stay in the shoujo category, with a few exceptions if the plotline is good enough. My current loves are Kuroshitsuji/Black Butler, Naruto (although my love for this one is slowly slipping away as time passes), Dengeki Daisy, and Ouke no Monshou (how’s that for an oldie? ;D), although I have several manga that I am currently reading and enjoy quite a bit.
My current cosplays include Madam Red from Kuroshitsuji, Kou Shurei from Saiunkoku Monogatari, Sophie Hatter from Howl’s Moving Castle, and Kushina from Naruto.
My in-progress costumes include a zombie-fied version of the Red Queen from Alice in Wonderland, Mrs. Potts from Beauty and the Beast, Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and Excalibur from Soul Eater.
The cosplays I hope to have ready (or already have ready) for Ikkicon 2012 are Madam Red- ball gown version, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic’s Sweetie Bell, and Kou Shurei from Saiukoku Monogatari.
